What is an At Home Cholesterol & Lipids Test?

The myLAB Box at home cholesterol and lipids test is designed to help you understand your increased risks for cardiovascular disease. Proper management of Cardiometabolic risk factors can support your overall wellness and provide effective tools for improved lifestyle and longevity.

Included: 1 Cholesterol and Lipids testing kit, and a pre-addressed return envelope (Postage Paid)

Risk factors may include high blood pressure and glucose, elevated triglycerides, abdominal obesity, physical inactivity, and smoking. A combination of at least three of these risk factors increases your risk for cardiovascular disease.

Symptoms of Cardiometabolic risk include:

  • Coronary heart disease
  • Heart attack
  • Stroke
  • Weight gain
  • High blood pressure
  • Elevated blood sugar
  • Kidney disease
  • Fatigue

What Do I Need to Do to Prepare for the Test?

It is not necessary to fast or adjust your diet or lifestyle in any way prior to testing. We also do not recommend discontinuing any medication without contacting your physician first.

What do the Results Mean?

Your test results will provide you with a comprehensive view of your current cholesterol and lipids levels in order to prevent heart disease and other symptoms.

  • Type of fat in your body. If you eat more calories than you need, the extra calories are changed into triglycerides. These triglycerides are stored in your fat cells for later use. When your body needs energy, triglycerides are released into your bloodstream to provide fuel for your muscles to work. If you eat more calories than you burn off, especially calories from carbohydrates and fats, you may get high triglyceride levels in your blood. High triglycerides may put you at greater risk for a heart attack or stroke.

What do I Need to do to Prepare for the Test?

You may need to fast (not food or drink) for 9 to 12 hours before your blood is drawn. Your health care provider will let you know if you need to fast and if there are any special instructions to follow.

    What do the Results Mean?
    • Normal Range (Blood Spot): <150 mg/dl
    • Borderline High: 150-199 mg/dl
    • High: 200-499 mg/dl
    • Very High: >500 mg/dl

Higher than normal triglyceride levels may put you at risk for heart disease. To reduce your levels and lower your risk, your health care provider may recommend lifestyle changes and/or prescribe medicines.

  • A waxy, fat-like substance that’s found in all the cells in your body. Your liver makes cholesterol, and it is also in some foods, such as meat and dairy products. Your body needs some cholesterol to work properly. But if you have too much cholesterol in your blood, you have a higher risk of coronary artery disease

    • Normal Range (Blood Spot): <200 mg/dl
  • Stands for high-density lipoproteins. It is called the “good” cholesterol because it carries cholesterol from other parts of your body back to your liver. Your liver then removes the cholesterol from your body.

    What do the Results Mean?
    • Normal Range (Blood Spot): 40 mg/dl or higher
  • Stands for low-density lipoproteins. It is called the “bad” cholesterol because a high LDL level leads to a buildup of cholesterol in your arteries.

    What do the Results Mean?

Normal Range (Blood Spot): <130 mg/dl (optimal <100)

    • Your LDL is most often considered to be too high if it is 190 mg/dL or higher.
