Afraid of Testing? STDs Are Not Monsters
When you’re in a haunted house it’s the fear of what’s around the next corner that makes you nervous, right? What if ‘this’ pops up? Or suppose there’s a gory image in the next room. Lots of people feel the same way when they think about STDs.
Are you a bit spooked by the idea of STD testing? Worried about what your test results might show? What if it turns out you have a sexually transmitted infection? What if it turns out your prospective partner does? These are the kinds of fears that keep us from getting the necessary tests to protect ourselves and our loved ones.
Here’s the thing—those fears are rarely as bad as we imagine them to be. Worrying is useless if you’re not going to take the time to get the facts. At home STD testing is easy, safe, painless and one of the best things you can do for yourself. Sure, it may be a little scary, particularly if you’re the kind of person who imagines ghosts lurking around every corner. But once you’ve gotten the test results back then you can breathe a sigh of relief, or get the necessary treatment.
We’re fortunate to have drugs to safely treat STDs today. Condoms, designed for both males and females can reduce transmission and make it possible to enjoy sex while getting treated for a sexually transmitted infection. In this case it’s a matter of ‘what you don’t know, can hurt you’. So, why not get tested? And encourage your partner to do the same.
